💡 Why This Matters

The built-in session picker searches titles, not content. When you remember a word from inside the conversation but not what the session was called, title search comes up empty. Full-text search across every session finds it in seconds.

## The Sessions Are Already Searchable Text

Every Claude Code conversation is saved on your hard drive as a plain-text JSONL file. That is the whole foundation, and it is covered in depth in Every Claude Code Session Is Saved on Your Computer.

Once you know the sessions are plain text, search stops being a missing feature and becomes something you can build. All that text is sitting there waiting to be indexed.

A Mac App That Searches All of It

Claude Session Search is a small Mac utility built on that idea. Type a word and it searches the full text of every session on the machine, ordered by most recent and best match.

The test case that prompted it: a session from earlier in the week, nothing memorable about the title, no idea which project folder it lived in. The only thing that came to mind was that the number one thousand came up in the conversation. Searching "thousand" surfaced it at the top of the list.

Open It Right Back Up

Search results are not just a list. Click a result and the whole conversation is right there, the back-and-forth between you and Claude. One more click on the Open button and the session opens in the Claude Code extension in VS Code, ready to continue with every bit of its context intact.
